This stunning RM003 V2 with red detailing is one of the most important specimens of Richard Mille’s second version of the RM003. Not only is the movement of the present watch No. 001 but it is also engraved especially for the present owner and significantly, is dated 2004, the year before the official release of the RM003 V2 in 2005. It is therefore one of the very earliest of the RM003 watches to be completed. The red detailing of the dial, hands and crown is likely to allude to the present owner’s connection with the world of car racing.
Building on the immense success of the RM006 ‘Felipe Massa’, an experimental model featuring a movement plate in carbon fibre, this innovation has been fully exploited and introduced to the other tourbillons under the Richard Mille marque. The RM 003-V2 replaced the RM003 and is fitted with the then new carbon nanofiber movement base plate which offers both physical and chemical stability and can withstand a wide range of temperatures producing excellent chronometric performance. Further developments to the movement were that the one-piece stiffening plate unit was reworked into two and then three separate units. The dial features a transparent sapphire crystal disc that indicates a dual time zone with hours which come into view when suspended above the white field at 3 o'clock. The dual time complication is simple to adjust via a single button in the band.
This remarkable early RM003 V2 with movement No.001 offers collectors the opportunity to obtain one of the key pieces of the RM003 with the important provenance of the original and present owner.
