Lot Essay

This superb split seconds chronograph tourbillon is the ultra-exclusive prototype no. 03 made for the development of the extremely limited series of only 5 pieces made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jean Todt’s entry into professional motorsports in 2017. The colour blue was chosen for the edition because it is Jean Todt’s favourite colour. In the established tradition of Richard Mille, the RM050 is extremely lightweight, the movement weighing only 9.5 grams. In addition to the split seconds chronograph, the watch is equipped with a 30-minute totalizer for the chronograph and indicators for the power reserve and torque. The famous Richard Mille function selector for winding/neutral/hand-setting is operated by the crown. The blue caseback and bezel is made using TPT quartz (Thin Ply Technology), its strength and incredible lightness is unparalleled, composed of hundreds of layers of quartz interspersed with layers of NTPT carbon, the layers are fused together at 120 degrees Celsius to form a case that is almost indestructible.

Today, it would be almost impossible to obtain one of the 5 watches of the production edition of the RM050. This incredible "Richard Mille RM050 Jean Todt" offers collectors the almost certainly unique opportunity to own not only an example of this super-rare model, but a prototype of exceptional and unbroken provenance.
