Lot Essay

This work was created in the Summer of 1918 during Kirchner's second stay on the Stafelalp above Davos Frauenkirch in Switzerland. It is dedicated to Dr. Ludwig Binswanger and his family, the doctor at Bellevue Sanatorium in Kruezlingen where Kirchner stayed for treatment during the winter of 1917-1918. The Binswanger family visited Kirchner in September 1919 and this work was most likely dedicated and given to the couple on this occasion.
