signed 'A. Rodin' (on the left side of the base); inscribed with foundry mark 'Perzinka. fondeur' (on the back of the base)
bronze with dark brown and red patina
Height: 23 1/4 in. (59 cm.)
Conceived circa 1884; this bronze version cast circa 1896
Provenance
M. Desèvres, France (by 1918).
Galerie Haussmann (Gustave Danthon), Paris (acquired from the above, 1927).
Hugo Perls, Berlin and Paris (acquired from the above, 1929).
Transferred to the Jeu de Paume in Paris on 31 October 1942, kept at the Mobilier National, Paris, and restituted to Hugo Perls, New York, between November 1947 and May 1956.
By descent from the above to the present owner, circa 1970.

This work will be included in the forthcoming Auguste Rodin catalogue critique de l'oeuvre sculpté currently being prepared by the Comité Auguste Rodin at Galerie Brame et Lorenceau under the direction of Jérôme Le Blay under the archive number 2022-6565B.
