Lot Essay

Christie’s is delighted to present this extremely rare and highly coveted ruby-set variation of reference 5971P. This discreetly lavish and highly complicated platinum perpetual calendar chronograph with leap-year and day and night indication is set with 89 shaped and carefully matched baguette-cut rubies of approximate 5.3 carats and a single baguette ruby as the 12 o’clock marker on the dial. The lacquer black dial with sunken sub-registers requires 12 coats of lacquer to achieve the richness of finish and depth of black colour demanded by Patek Philippe. The highly exclusive ruby-set bezel, lugs and matching ruby-set deployant clasp embodies the ultimate excellence in watch making technology and haute joaillerie.

Made in only a very few examples, thought to be less than 10 pieces, this watch is an incredibly exciting find for Patek collectors. Available only to Patek Philippe’s top clients, this ruby-set ref. 5271/12P-001 presents a significant opportunity for any discerning collector to acquire one of Patek Philippe’s most stunning modern high-complication timepieces.

Reference 5271
Patek Philippe revealed the new reference 5271 at Baselworld in 2014. A variation of the Patek Philippe 5270 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, this ruby-set version in platinum features a black dial, the movement is Patek Philippe’s in-house calibre CH 29-535 PS Q that was granted the new hallmark of excellence, the PP seal.
