John Scott Everton (1908-2003) was an ordained Baptist minister, college administrator, and executive of the Ford Foundation. He first visited India shortly after World War II as a representative of the American Friends Service Committee working on famine relief. He returned to India many times throughout his career which included positions in Burma, Turkey, Indonesia, and Taiwan. From 1961-1963 he served as the United States Ambassador to Burma (Myanmar).
