Gertrude Fiske was born in 1879 in Boston and later studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston for seven years. She later spent time in France to study the work of the Impressionists before returning to her hometown to work as a full-time painter. Known for her masterful depictions of the effects of light, Fiske was a celebrated artist during her lifetime. Fiske’s work can now be found in museum collections such as the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
