Lot Essay

Franz Anton Hartmann likely received his artistic training in the workshop of his father Johann Jakob Hartmann, also known as the 'Bohemian Breughel'. Both artists specialized in landscape painting, drawing inspiration from Flemish masters. The present painting is executed on a reused engraving plate.

We are grateful to Luuk Pijl for proposing the attribution on the basis of photographs.
