Lot Essay

Designed by Jorg Hysek and launched in 1994 as Tag Heuer’s flagship model, it was the culmination of the company’s diver’s watch development. The 6000 Series offered buyers an automatic diver’s watch that was available in steel but also in more luxurious case materials including platinum. yellow and white gold. Some references were fitted with COSC-certified chronometer grade movements and there was also a quartz version, identifiable by the word “Professional” on the dial. Two chronograph models were added to the range in 1997.

Continuing in the tradition of the company’s close and long-standing association with motorsports, several of the Special Edition 6000 Series watches were allied to the sport, in particular Formula One. One of the first models of the 6000 Series to be produced was the reference WH5151 which was the watch that triple F1 World Champion Ayrton Senna wore from the end of 1993, it features the Senna “S” on the bottom lug. A pair of chronographs were released in association with double F1 World Champion Mika Hakkinen and two editions were produced for MClaren F1
