The present work is one of several preparatory studies (Strobl, vol. III, nos. 2609-2617 and Strobl, vol. IV, nos. 3696-3697) for Klimt's Bildnis Ria Munk III (1917-1918; Novotny-Dobai, no. 209), which belongs to The Lewis Collection, currently on loan to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
