La terre est émaillée puis décorée au moyen de la technique du Sgrifatto : l’objet est alors gravé d’un dessin unique. Cette technique de traitement pictural de l’émail confère à chaque buste toute son individualité.Tout en humour, cette pièce aux volumes décomplexés incarne la liberté d’esprit qui caractérise le travail des frères Cloutier dont l’œuvre inclassable se réinvente sans cesse.A major piece in the work of Robert and Jean Cloutier, this rare Buste d’homme was presented at the Salon des ateliers d'art in 1958 along with its counterpart Buste de femme —the couple caused a sensation. The glazed clay is decorated using the Sgrifatto technique: the object is then engraved with a unique design. Showcasing a pictorial treatment of the enamel, this technique conveys its individuality to each bust. With its uninhibited volumes, this humorous piece embodies the freedom of spirit that characterizes the unclassifiable and constantly reinvented work of the Cloutier brothers.
