Les curieux et passants qualifient rapidement les meubles exposés de « spoutnik » tant ils contrastent avec le paysage des arts décoratifs classiques. Dans les salles d’exposition se côtoient des céramiques de Jouve illuminées de luminaires de Mouille, le tout rythmé de meubles de Perriand et sculptures d’Alexandre Noll. Fondée par la céramiste et décoratrice d’intérieur Gabrielle Rochard,la galerie s’inscrit dans l’avant-garde du Design hexagonal et attire les marques étrangères les plus influentes, comme Knoll International pour laquelle Gabrielle Rochard devient la première dépositaire en France. Cette céramiste confirmée, notamment défendue par la galerie La Crémaillère à Paris et Folklore à Limoges, se voit progressivement absorbée par son activité de galeriste et décoratrice. Gabrielle Rochardlaisse finalement à son fils, Jacques Serre et sa future femme, Michelle Bargoin le petit four qu’elle avait placé dans la cave familiale, donnant première forme au duo d’artistes Les 2 potiers. Depuis toujours resté dans la famille de Gabrielle Rochard, cet ensemble de quatre oeuvres de Noll témoigne des formidables échanges entre les pionniers et créateurs de cette époque.In 1953, inhabitants of Clermont-Ferrand discover a new kind of gallery at 11 rue Bonnabaud. Onlookers and passers-by quickly qualify the exhibited furniture as “sputnik” as they contrast with the landscape of classical decorative arts. In the exhibition rooms, ceramics from Jouve are illuminated with lightings from Mouille, all punctuated by furniture by Perriand and sculptures by Alexandre Noll. Founded by the ceramist and interior designer Gabrielle Rochard, the gallery was at the avant-garde of French Design and attracted the most influential foreign brands, such as Knoll International, for which Gabrielle Rochard became the first agent in France. This experienced ceramist, notably represented by the gallery La Crémaillère in Paris and Folklore in Limoges, is gradually absorbed by her activity as a gallerist and decorator. Gabrielle Rochard finally leaves toher son, Jacques Serre and his future wife, Michelle Bargoin the small kiln that she had set in the family cellar, shaping the artist duo Les 2 potiers. Remaining within Rochard’s family until this day, this set of four works by Noll exemplifies the wonderful exchanges between pioneers and creators of this period.
