Lot Essay

The recipient was Zhou Qigang (1887-1978), a native of Guangdong, who was a leader in the field of oversea affairs in KMT. Zhou served as deputy minster of Overseas Affairs from 1938 to 1944. Wu Chaoshu was a renowned diplomat in Southeast Asia, and he served as the Ambassador in Malaysia. Wu was acquainted with the Chinese art circle and collected many fine pieces by Xu Beihong.
