Lot Essay

The Forest of Hardelot is close to Boulogne-sur-Mer on the coast of north-west France. It surrounds the Chateau d'Hardelot, an English-style Neo-Gothic Victorian Castle which was bought in 1897 by the British industrialist John Robinson Whitley. It seems likely that Crane visited during his tenure.
