Lot Essay

“I sought to express the movement - its piercing slowness, or its brilliance - and I wanted to make the surface of the canvas vibrate with contrasts or with multiple reverberations of a single color. I was looking for a center which would glow: I painted with large gestures, sometimes using the palette knife as if to crush the canvas and make the color go further into the interior of the surface.” - ZAO WOU-KI
