Lot Essay

In 2015, Romain Gauthier celebrated the 10th anniversary of his boutique watch brand. At Baselworld the same year, he introduced the ‘HMS Ten’ series of limited edition wristwatches as a homage and commemoration of this milestone anniversary.

This unique example of the model has a pink gold case and rich deep midnight blue dial. Entirely handmade with the exception of the mainspring, balance spring and jewels, it displays the superb finishing that is synonymous with the watches designed and manufactured in Romain Gauthier’s Le Sentier workshop.

The most striking feature of the ‘HMS Ten’ is that it does not have a traditional winding crown on the side of the case. Instead, the winding and hand-setting is performed by the large toothed wheel situated flat on the caseback. This system is more than purely aesthetic, it increases winding efficiency and also wear and tear on the movement components. With a power reserve of 60 hours, the 22 jewel movement features circular spoked wheels and curved screws slots which are unique Romain Gauthier designs. The escapement showcases the Gauthier Triangular Pallet Lever and bespoke escape wheel.
