The creation of this astonishing unique objet d’art is dedicated to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos’ relentless work in promoting peace and dialogue on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the great Omani Renaissance.
The solid silver-gilt case set with rich lapis lazuli is of the finest workmanship. On each side of the clock is a splendid three-dimensional bouquet of Sultan Qaboos roses replicated in silver-gilt and red enamel. The exquisite clock dial is composed of lapis lazuli, red enamel and white agate, gold hands set with rubies indicate the hours and minutes, an aperture for the moon phase is placed above 6 o’clock. Ingeniously, a concealed circular window above the 4 o’clock numeral informs the owner when setting of the moon phase is safe to perform. Surrounding the dial is the 24-hour world-time indication with the names of 12 world cities, naturally, Muscat is placed as the home city. Below the main dial are further smaller dials for thermometer, barometer and hygrometer. Setting arbours for all functions are neatly concealed by the bezel. The highly impressive movement has a power reserve of 30 days and is fitted with a feature that is almost never seen in a clock, a tourbillon escapement. The mesmerizing action of the tourbillon can be admired through the curved transparent glass domed top which is surmounted by a large single Sultan Qaboos Rose. The backplate of the movement is lavishly and superbly engraved with foliage, a beautiful work of art in its own right. The hours and half-hours are sounded on a bell with a sweet and clear tone.
This magnificent one of a kind clock is both a technical and aesthetic wonder, a contemporary handmade masterpiece of the highest order. Accompanied by the original fitted box and winding key, this standout work of art made in tribute to the Sultan of Oman is presented here for the first time at auction, offering collectors the singular opportunity to acquire this truly inspired and dazzling timepiece.

Known for its distinctive aroma and vibrant hue, the Sultan Qaboos Rose was named after His Late Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said by the world Rose Society in the Netherlands in recognition of His Majesty’s effort and contribution towards world peace. It has been a tradition to name roses after world leaders and royalty in honour of their distinguished work. In the small village of Bahla in Northern Oman blooms this special rose as a reminder of His Late Majesty’s leadership, as a result, Bahla earned the status of UNESCO world heritage site.
