A great rarity among Patek Philippe’s world-time reference 5130, this Certificate of Origin-confirmed special request reference 5130G-023, features the city of Jerusalem in red lettering on the dial. The city name ‘Jerusalem’ replaces the city of Cairo’s time zone. The present watch also features two further significant city name changes from the standard reference 5130 – ‘La Paz’ replaces ‘Caracas’ and ‘Riyadh’ replaces ‘Dubai’.
Interestingly, Patek Philippe created a limited series of reference 5130G-013 featuring a similar ‘Jerusalem’ text but with gold lettering. However, the present timepiece is not a production limited edition but a highly exclusive special dial requested by the original purchaser. As such, it is one of the rarest variants of this iconic world-time reference and would make a notable addition to any collection of modern Patek Philippe complications.
Reference 5130
Launched in 2006 reference 5130 replaced reference 5110, in production since 2000. Its classic Calatrava style features a larger diameter of 39.5 mm. as opposed to the 37 mm. of its predecessor. The new size allowed broadening the width of the exterior rotating disc showing the 24 time zones, thus rendering the names of the 24 world cities even more legible.
Much inspired by the celebrated reference 1415, Patek Philippe's first World Time watch introduced in the 1930s, the dial is decorated with a new guilloché sunburst pattern, the distinctive hour markers give the watch a dynamic, contemporary look. The ring-shaped hour hand is also reminiscent of the firm's historic World Time watches, symbolizing the globe and reserved exclusively for this type of timepiece.
