Lot Essay

René Magritte spent part of his military service in Camp Beverlo, near Bourg-Léopold, where Commanding Officer Marius Delsaux was also posted shortly after World War I. It is believed that this is where the two met. The present work was gifted to Marius Delsaux to thank him for some permissions granted during the artist’s military service a few years prior.
