Lot Essay

The present watch is No. 1 of a limited edition of only 28 pieces and offered in excellent condition.

Jaeger LeCoultre is one of the undisputed masters of Haute Horlogerie. The ‘Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Céleste’ is certainly a masterwork that demonstrates the incredible ability of the company’s watchmakers. Launched in 2019, at the 76th anniversary of the Venice International Film Festival, it is a phenomenal and very visual creation that displays a luminous sky chart of the Northern Hemisphere. It also features a zodiac calendar and a remarkable orbital one-minute flying tourbillon which makes a complete rotation of the dial in 23 hours, 56 minutes and 6 seconds – the length of one sidereal day. Sidereal time is calculated from the position of the stars, whereas solar time, shown by the hour and minute hands is calculated from the position of the sun.

Powered by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house made caliber 946 German silver movement with a silicon escape wheel and pallet fork, the movement is visible through the sapphire crystal display back to admire its exceptional finishing, it offers a power reserve of 45 hours. However, it is the dial that really impresses, with its display of the celestial canopy of the Northern Hemisphere depicting the constellations of the zodiac calendar with an outer ring for the zodiac symbols and the months. In low light levels, the dial takes on a breathtaking beauty due to the star constellations being Super-Luminova treated in order to create the effect of the night sky. A small gold marker rotates around the dial to indicate the chosen star’s position to calculate sidereal time.

This incredible astronomical timepiece offers collectors a limited edition watch of high complication, stunning looks and exclusivity.
