Part of the Saxonia Collection, the Triple Split chronograph represents not only a major achievement and technical accomplishment for Lange & Söhne but also in the history of watchmaking, showcasing a complication that had never been done before. Described by the company as “THE ULTIMATE CHRONOGRAPH”, it is a wristwatch of staggering complexity and is undoubtedly one of the greatest advancements in watchmaking in modern times. Indeed, every example of the Triple Split Chronograph is assembled in Lange’s Grand Complication workshop in Glashütte by just two watchmakers, each watch is then assembled, disassembled and tested a great many times until it is deemed perfect. Lange & Söhne are regarded as the best and most innovative contemporary makers of the chronograph mechanism. The construction of the extraordinary triple rattrapante mechanism that controls three hand pairs together or individually posed tremendous technical challenges which were in over five years of development, duly overcome. The Triple Split Chronograph is truly a masterpiece in every sense of the word and is the state-of-the-art chronograph today.
The Triple-Split Chronograph
The world’s first mechanical split-seconds chronograph that enables the user to make multi-hour time measurements. Consisting of 567 parts, the specially developed in-house caliber L132.1 features a triple rattrapante mechanism for seconds, minutes and hours. The Triple-split can therefore precisely measure and compare single and additive times and an unlimited number of intermediate and reference times lasting as long as 12 hours, all to an incredible accuracy of one-sixth of a second.
In the words of A. Lange & Söhne; “the Triple-Split can, for instance, compare the times of two opponents in a Formula 1 race, a Tour de France leg or a marathon. It can also record the times of consecutively starting events, such as the outbound and return legs of a long-haul flight. Also, it is possible to add the times of multi-hour events, such as the duration of individual Ironman disciplines. Any number of lap times can be stopped during an additive time measurement.”
This awe-inspiring masterwork of horological engineering allows collectors the rare opportunity to absorb and fully appreciate the sheer genius of Lange & Söhne, without doubt one of the greatest watchmaking houses in the world.
