Already a modern classic, this ingenious ‘aviator-style’ platinum ‘Grand Complication’ reference 5520P-001 offers the frequent traveller both dual time zone and alarm functions together in the same timepiece. The automatic caliber AL 30-660 SC FUS movement for the ‘Alarm Travel Time’ took an incredible five years of research and development before it was launched at Baselworld in 2019.
A combination of modern sporting aesthetics and remarkable technical innovation, reference 5520P features an exclusive dual time zone ‘Travel Time’ system with a 24-hour alarm mechanism that strikes with a hammer on a classic gong. The new movement caliber necessary to integrate these complications involved registering four new patents for the alarm.
On the left side of the ‘aviator-style’ case, there are two twist-lock push buttons + and – which adjust the local time incrementally. On the right side are two further buttons, the button at 2 o’clock is for the on/off for the alarm, the button at 4 o’clock is for winding and setting the alarm and the home time hour and minute hands. The beautiful sunburst ebony black ‘military’ inspired dial features bold luminous numerals, an alarm on/off indicator in a small bell-shaped aperture below 12 o’clock - white when the alarm is active and dark when the alarm is off and and indicator windows for ‘Local’ and ‘Home’ times.
Supplied with interchangeable solid platinum and sapphire crystal case backs, the ‘Alarm Travel Time’ is water-resistant to 30 metres and has an impressive diameter of 42.2 mm.
