Lot Essay

The most luxurious version of the now iconic Omega Central Tourbillon 2006 in pink gold - Substantial and highly sophisticated, yet with a 39 millimeter case it is easily wearable and discreet, the perfect timepiece for those who appreciate innovation in fine watchmaking.

Launched in 1994 with the caliber 1170 movement, the Omega Central Tourbillon was the first of its kind with automatic winding. For the first time, the tourbillon was placed at the centre of the watch, a visually stunning and ingenious creation. The further challenge of the placement of the hands was solved equally ingeniously in the form of two sapphire crystal discs each etched with a hand and rotating around the centre in a similar way to a mystery watch.

In 2002, the new version was presented with improved caliber 2600 chronometer movement. Each watch was tested at the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres and issued with a Chronometer Certificate to confirm its high precision. The Central Tourbillon was available in 18k yellow gold, pink gold, white gold and platinum as well as diamond-set and skeletonized versions.

The particularity of the tourbillon is that all the escapement parts - pallets wheel, pallets and sprung balance - are assembled in a small mobile cage that makes one complete rotation in one minute. This ingenious device, invented by the celebrated Abraham-Louis Breguet, eliminates performance variations due to gravitational forces and thus assures optimum accuracy in the mechanical watch.
