Created as a unique piece for Only Watch 2013, this impressive Ulysse Nardin gold ‘Marine Chronometer’ is fitted with a beautifully handcrafted ‘Grand Feu’ pure white enamel dial made by Donzé Cadrans, the world-renowned enamel dial specialists whose dials were chosen by Patek Philippe for their exceptional minute repeater reference 3939 among others. The dial design is based upon historic marine chronometers and for Only Watch it features bold Roman numerals, large subsidiary seconds with the inscription ‘ONLY WATCH’ within and ‘EMAIL GRAND FEU’ below, the quick-setting date has a magnified window and the 60-hour power reserve indicator is located below 12 o’clock.
Master Enameller Francis Donzé started his family company in 1972 and his niche business soon became a supplier of enamel dials to many of the most important watchmaking companies in the world, in particular Patek Philippe. In 1987, Mr. Donzé retired and his family continued the business of traditional enamel dial making. In 2012, Ulysse Nardin acquired Donzé Cadrans. The art of enamelling is only perfected after years of practice and very few artisans today are capable of producing ‘Grand Feu’ enamel dials to the standard required by the great watch brands. This ancient craft is supported by and continues to grace the timepieces of Ulysse Nardin.
Showcasing the fine art of enamelling and technically advanced precision horology, this unique Only Watch Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer has a superb presence on the wrist and is an important part of the Only Watch story.
