Lot Essay

The Universal Genève Tri-Compax is immediately recognizable even to the wider public, it is without doubt one of the most desirable and collectible vintage watches for the collector. The present Tri-Compax is not just a great example of this model, it is probably the finest example known today, its perfect proportions and stunningly preserved dial perfectly illustrates why the Tri-Compax model is so sought after.

Launched in 1944, the legendary ‘Tri-Compax’ is perhaps Universal's best-known model. One of the most complex chronograph wristwatches of the period, its functions include days, weeks, jumping months, moon phases, minute counter, chronographic hours, and a tachymeter scale. The model was available in steel and gold cases, with a variety of dial colours and designs. The designation ‘Tri’ is derived from the three main complications, chronograph, full calendar and moon phases.
