Released in 2004, Reference 116509 was an important stepping stone with many firsts for Rolex. Reference 116509 was the first white gold Daytona to be fitted on a white gold bracelet. It also housed caliber 4130, Rolex’s first inhouse chronograph movement replacing the beloved Zenith-based caliber. The new movement had less parts than its predecessor, allowing for easier serviceability while also increasing the power reserve from 54 to 72 hours.
The present timepiece features a silver dial with black registers, and the signature red 'Daytona' text above the lower register. The mostly bi-color dial suits the white gold case metal and adds to its 'under the radar' stealthy aesthetic. The watch has an engraved and black paint filled bezel with tachymeter scale. A screw down crown and pushers help ensure Rolex’s guarantee of 100 meters of water depth rating, making the watch ready to wear on any occasion.
