Lot Essay

The clothing boutique Mr. Freedom was opened in 1969 at 430 King's Road in Chelsea in London as part of the counter-culture movement of the decade. A favorite of celebrities such as Elton John and Freddie Mercury, the boutique sold brightly colored 'pop art' style fashions commission from up and coming designers by owner Tommy Roberts and his partner Trevor Myles. The boutique moved to Kensington Church Street in 1971, but closed soon after in 1972.
