Lot Essay

The stamps on the verso of this photograph have been identified as M14 and M33 in Steven Manford’s book, Behind the photo: the stamps of Man Ray (2009). According to Manford, M14 is a lifetime stamp used after 1951 (p. 26) and M33 is a lifetime 1950s original stamp (pp. 12 & 42).
