Lot Essay

The present painting was previously in the collection of Mr. Barnet Hodes, a lawyer and former counsel of the City of Chicago. Mr. Hodes was an important collector of surrealist art and a friend of William Copley, who first introduced him to Surrealism in the 1940s.
