Lot Essay

This red gold GMT Earth Sport Tourbillon by the renowned independent horological geniuses Greubel Forsey can only be described as spectacular. With sky blue strap and crown detailing it is one of an incredibly limited production. Observing this technically astounding masterpiece in action is totally compelling, the trademark 25° inclined tourbillon completing a rotation every 24 seconds. Measuring an impressive 45 mm in diameter, the uniquely arched and ovoid shaped ergonomically designed case is designed with maximum visibility in mind so that the remarkable construction, finish and functions of the movement can be easily observed. The satin-finished bezel is distinctively engraved with the cardinal values of the Greubel Forsey maison. At 1 o’clock, the 24-seconds tourbillon with a 25° inclined cage is visible, one of Greubel Forsey’s formidable inventions to improve chronometric performance. The 72-hour power reserve is displayed at 3 o’clock, and the auxiliary dial between 10 and 11 o’clock combines small seconds and the second time zone. A rotating terrestrial globe at 8 o’clock indicates 24-hour divisions for global time zones, the GMT is adjusted by two pushers. On the caseback, a sapphire cities disc displays UTC Universal and Summer Time for 24 cities in major time zones. The concentric luminous openworked hands actually follow the case's curvature. The rotating globe is as seen from above the North Pole and rotates around its axis in real time. It is surrounded by a sapphire crystal ring with 24-hour divisions; where local time can be for all longitudes, including the day/night indicator.

Offering an incredible opportunity to acquire one of the most exciting and attractive examples of contemporary independent haute horologerie, this watch is the most impressive trophy for those who hold the endless pursuit of timekeeping excellence in the highest regard.

Greubel Forsey
Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey’s working relationship of over 20 years is founded on their shared technical creativity and quest for perfection. The two watchmakers are fabled for their exceptional and avant-garde horology, combining highly complicated mechanical functions with uncompromisingly provocative styling concepts.
Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey have become legends in the world of modern independent watchmaking. Working together since 1992, when they were developing complicated movements for Renaud & Papi, Greubel and Forsey decided to branch out on their own in 1999, setting up as the independents, CompliTime Greubel, la Neuveville and Bureau d’Etude et Prototype, le Locle, respectively. From this moment forward, they are focused on designing a new generation of tourbillons specifically developed to improve the timekeeping of the mechanical watch.
