OLD AND RARE MADEIRA RECENTLY REMOVED FROM A PRIVATE CELLAR ON THE ISLAND
From OP Brothers private collection. With a keen eye for quality and rarity these bottles have been selected from old Madeirean collections by OP.
Most bottles were inspected and recorked. A number of wines were tasted by Christie’s staff.
JCA & C, Reserva Superior 1740
Recorked in 2015 by OP. New wax cap with OP seal. Stencilled bottle, fading. Level: 3cms
Tasting note: First tasted January 2017. Medium rich nose of caramel, uplifting citrus aromas and cream. Fresh apricot, mango and banana. An attractive nose full tropical enjoyment over some mineral flavours. Good depth and complexity. Direct well concentrated aromas of wax, old wood and dried apricots. Slightly sweet over high acidity. On the finish quite strong gripping acidity of the well-aged type ending with pure dried citrus fruits. Interesting wine of character and length. Very good. Then half a year later. High toned nose with exotic fruits like mango and apricot, quite sweet with a touch of nail remover. This vanished slowly with some air. Deep and well cask aged. Intense medium sweet taste, creamy exotic fruit aromas. Full of strength and liveliness. Concentrated flavours. A strong wine of exotic character. Very good. Last tasted July 2017. EV.
