The Americas

The Rockefeller identity — a mix of pioneering business leaders, fiercely independent women and committed philanthropists — embodied the ideal of the ‘American Dream.’ Committed to civic patronage, the Rockefellers championed the preservation of the nation’s natural and cultural heritage through the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg, contributions to as many as 40 national parks, including Acadia, Yellowstone and Grand Teton, and involvement in numerous projects in New York City, including Rockefeller Center, Lincoln Center, The Cloisters, the United Nations and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Fittingly, the Collection includes a vibrant selection of fine and decorative items from the Americas, such as a Pennsylvania-German ‘black unicorn’ painted chest-over-drawers as well as works by artists ranging from Burchfield, Calder, Homer, Hopper, O’Keeffe, de Kooning, Rivera and Sargent.
