Lot Essay

This stunning marriage of architecture and furniture is from a limited edition of approximately twenty trumeaux which were modified by Piero Fornasetti from the prototype designed in 1951 by himself and Gio Ponti (now in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum). 'Architettura' was reintroduced in an edition of ten in the 1980s. The model from which this trumeau was produced was sold in our Los Angeles galleries, Important Design: The Life of Piero Fornasetti, May 16, 1998, lot 33. cf. Patrick Mauris, Fornasetti: Designer of Dreams, 1991, p.100-101 for illustrations
