Jupiter, in the guise of a satyr, comes across Antiope as she sleeps and ravishes her. Fontebasso treated this subject in another painting at the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest (see M. Magrini, Francesco Fontebasso, Venice, 1988, under no. 26, fig. 63). The figure of Antiope is repeated in a drawing (same orientation) of a young man holding an urn, with a sleeping nymph in the foreground (fig. 1), and a print of Nine figures with a bust of Pan (in reverse) by the artist (both with David Tunick, Inc., New York).
