MARK OF MATTHÄUS SCHMIDT, AUGSBURG, CIRCA 1683
The cup tapering cylindrical and on a spreading domed foot, the foot chased with military trophies, the stem cast as a camel supported on the backs on Turkish prisoners, the bowl chased with a scene of the Turkish and Allied army's battling at the walls of Vienna below an inscription, marked near rim and on foot
12¼ in. (31 cm.) high
21 oz. (639 gr.)
The inscription translates as 'The Victory of the Emperor Leopold I over two hundred thousand Turks and the Grand Vizier with the help of the B.V.M. and the Christian Princes on September 12 1683'
