The size of sheet and texture of paper, along with the 'blottesque' handling of the foliage is comparable with other works from de Wint's 1816 sketchbook. Firmly dated works in de Wint's oeuvre are scarce, hence the importance status of the sketchbook, another sheet of which in the collection of The Usher Art Gallery, see J.
