The figure in this image is the photographer's wife Lisa. The picture was made in the year of their divorce. She was to marry Irving Penn, whom she had met in 1947 and who graciously acknowledged Fernand Fonssagrives for 'making some of the most beautiful images we have of joy, health and sport in the out of doors'.
