Lot Essay

The girls in this Polaroid, Lisa and Henriette, are better known as 'Big Nude I' and 'Big Nude III'. Both also feature in 'Sie Kommen'. Newton invited them to spend some time at his home in Ramatuelle where they posed for numerous pictures, perhaps most notably 'Henriette Ficelée', suggesting a date for this Polaroid of 1980 as against the circa 1979 given in Pola Woman. This informal way of working was uncharacteristic for a photographer so used to making his pictures to fulfil commercial commissions of one kind or another.
