Accompanied by Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial and dauphine hour markers in 1918 and its subsequent sale on 16 May 1919. To the best of our knowledge it has never been offered in public before.
This watch is part of a small series of oversized rectangular wristwatches made by Patek Philippe in the late 1910s and early 1920s. Often made for the celebrated Brazilian retailer Gondolo & Labouriau, some examples were also released in other parts of the world.
The present watch is one of the most outstanding designs in the history of wristwatches. Very much to the surprise of even trained eyes, the unique look thanks to the stretched "tumbling" numerals is not an invention of recent years but dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. It seems logical that such a strong look is again inspiring many manufacturers for actual production.
