A rich variety of textures, a vertiginous vantage point, a shallow depth of field creating a softly graduated focus, and an exposure that treats alike both the solid and the fluid conspire to achieve a surprising and engaging image from an essentially commonplace subject. All credit to Kessler, whose personal story has eluded our investigations.
