Michael Lyne was born in Herefordshire and studied art at Cheltenham. His love of hunting was transferred to his painting from an early age and his free brushstrokes capture the liveliness and pure excitement that riding horses can bring.

In 1969 the Grand National was won by Highland Wedding, who ran clear by 12 lengths.
