Cyrillic mark SA probably for Samuel Arnt, St. Petersburg, 1873
Rectangular, of oval section, the hinged cover applied with a gold monogram surmounted by a princely coronet, the vesta compartment with exterior striker and with pierced tinder cord aperture and chained fitting, marked inside cover and base
4 in. (10 cm.) long
The applied gold monogram A E & M is that of Alfred Ernest, Duke of Edinburgh, second son of Queen Victoria, and Maria Alexandrovna, only daughter of Tsar Alexander II, Emperor of Russia, who married on the 23th January 1874.
