Shaped rectangular, the cover and base set with panels of blue-grey agate, the cover carved with Tullia in her chariot, the mounts chased with shells and foliage

Tullia was the daughter of the legendary Roman king, Servius Tullius. Extremely ambitious, she persuaded her second husband and ex-brother-in-law, Tarquin, to kill her father and take control of the throne. Tite-Live reported that after the murder, Tullia may have run her chariot over the bloodied corpse.

Lot Essay

Tullia est la fille du roi légendaire de la Rome antique Servius Tullius (VIème siècle avant J.C). Rongée par l'ambition elle pousse son second époux (ancien beau-frère et amant) Tarquin le Superbe à tuer son père et s'emparer du trône. Tite-Live raconte qu'après cet assassinat, Tullia serait passée avec son char sur le corps ensanglanté de son père.
