The attribution is due to Professor Dario Succi; For another example of the artist's work, see Sotheby's, London, 11 December, 2003, lot 42.

This composition is derived from Canaletto's picture of the same subject, known from several versions and of which the prototype is in the Royal Collection, Windsor. The latter was engraved by Visentini in 1735. Constable also records a version of the composition in the collection of Bernard Désarnauts, Toulouse, as by Pietro Bellotti (104 x 151 cm.; Canaletto, Oxford, 1962, II, p. 294, under no. 251).
