This painting was dedicated to Shangqian.
Gao Shangqian became Qi Baishis disciple around the end of the Chinese Civil War (1927-1950). Due to the closeness of their relationship, many of Qi Baishis paintings were dedicated to Gao. The basket overflowing with ripe cherries not only suggests abundance but is also an inviting picture representing the simple, idyllic village life.
