Sale Room Notice
John Craxton first visited Crete in 1947, and he returned the following year for a prolonged spell in the mountains where he encountered shepherds in their distinctive hooded coats. He made a series of drawings such as this one, which he used for two important paintings: Shepherds at Night and Homage to Alones. Both will be reproduced in a Craxton memorial monograph due in the spring.
