Gilt-finished movement, finely pierced and engraved balance cock, enamel dial, small central hour dial with Arabic numerals, gold serpentine hands, framed by four subsidiary dials for month, date, day and constant seconds, large circular case, polychrome champlevé enamel decorated bezel and pendant, the reverse with a painted polychrome enamel friendship scene depicting a lady and her young friend holding a poem in his hands, the applied paste-set words a la amista, or to friendship in old Italian, on translucent Royal blue enamel background over engine-turning, beneath a small rectangular painted enamel pastoral scene depicting a lonely walker in a woodland and lake landscape, framed by polychrome champlevé enamel vases with flowers on lilac and gilt background, dial signed Ph. Terrot & Fazy, movement signed Jn Fazy & Fils

Lot Essay

The master watchmakers Philippe Terrot & Jean-Salomon Fazy were active in Geneva from 1767 to 1780, specializing in the manufacture of highly decorative watches, mainly for the French and Spanish markets.

The present watch is a very attractive example of such a watch, the appeal further enhanced by the calendar functions, the very good overall condition and the large size.
