BY THE POPOV FACTORY, MOSCOW, MID-19TH CENTURY
The pitcher of askos form, the white ground body painted on both sides with multi-coloured floral bouquets, the lower section of the body elaborately moulded in the form of a scallop shell decorated with alternating bands of gilt floral ornamentation on pink ground, the handle modelled as branching coral, the cups formed as scallop shells, the moulded sides highlighted in gold and white, with branching coral handles and bases, gilt interiors, the saucers with conforming decoration, the pitcher marked under base with underglaze blue factory mark and overglaze numeral '15', the cups marked under bases with underglaze blue factory marks
