Château Latour--Vintage 1948
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Vintage note: 1948 is a perfectly lovely vintage, sandwiched between the legendary vintages of 1947 and 1949. The wines were produced under somewhat cooler conditions, but are none the worse for that. The quality of these wines has been consistently strong throughout the years, and the wines have held very well. Not as firmly tannic as the years on either side, 1948 makes the case for longevity of the silkier, more perfumed vintages such as 1929 and 1899.
"...exotic nose of mint, cassis, walnuts and leather. The wine exhibits impressive richness, density, and body, as well as a long, soft finish...lasting another 15-25 years." 94 points, Robert Parker, October 1994
