Lot Essay

'Paean,' modeled in 1963, is a variation of Robus' 'Song' of thirty years prior. A cast of 'Song,' a favorite among patrons, was well-received when exhibited at the artist's retrospective exhibition in 1958 and inspired the artist to create 'Paean.' 'Paean' was cast in an edition of four between 1963 and 1964.
